My husband has these photos of me from 2009 where I am sitting on the floor of our living room with piles and piles of coupons all around me. I tried finding the pictures for this post but, unfortunately, couldn’t locate them. But they certainly sum up a period of my life where I was convinced that the only way to save money on expensive cleaning products was to match a coupon with a sale. Little did I know then what I know now. That I could make my own DIY all-purpose cleaners that will knock the socks off of any of the store-bought ones. Not only that, but I could also make mine with all-natural ingredients for just a few cents. Woohoo!
Fast forward to now, and I am a little pretty obsessed with making my own cleaning products, and I have tried lots and lots of recipes out there on the internet. Here are five of my favorites, and they are all slightly different from each other. For that reason, I would encourage you to make all of them at least once to see which one you prefer.
Where can you use an all-purpose cleaner?
A surface cleaner, also called an all-purpose cleaner, is just that. It can be used in many different places in your home. For instance, to wipe down kitchen and bathroom cupboards, clean out the inside of the fridge/freezer, clean your kitchen and bathroom surfaces, and even clean your Ikea furniture (aka, not real wood).
So are you ready? Here are five unbelievable all-surface cleaners that you need to try:
Homemade All-Purpose Surface Cleaner
Most all-purpose cleaners, like some of the ones listed below, use vinegar to fight against bacteria. I like this one though, because it is vinegar free. Why would you want a vinegar-free cleaner? If you have granite or marble countertops. So I use this cleaner in my kitchen and some different ones in other areas of my home.

Homemade All-Purpose Cleaner
In addition to tea tree oil, which helps to fight bacteria, this recipe also includes witch hazel so that you have double the bacteria-fighting power. Just keep in mind that this recipe also contains baking soda which is slightly abrasive, so you will want to refrain from using this on your scratchable surfaces. Instead, use it in places like your stovetop to help remove baked-on food.

DIY Spray Cleaner
This recipe uses washing powder and Borax to clean. There is much debate on the internet as to how safe Borax is. One of the best articles I read on this subject was by Wellness Mama. Take a look at it, and then decide if you want to use Borax or not.

DIY Herb Infused Cleaner
Not only does this recipe contain vodka which helps to lift grease and grime, but it also uses vinegar. My husband is extremely sensitive to the smell; he hates it when I use straight vinegar around the house. That’s why I am so thankful for this infused variety; all of the herbs mask the vinegar smell and instead create a cleaner with a divine aroma.

Lavender Sage All-Purpose Spray Cleaner
This cleaner is the simplest recipe of them all! And the great news is that it includes lots of different options to make it your own. So definitely check out this post!

A Word About Curated Posts
The above is a curated post. Some people call them round-ups, but I like the phrase “curated post” a lot better because I have spent hours putting each of these lists together. I have been a Pinterest junkie for years, and I am always looking for the newest or best or most interesting DIY project out there. Finding these items, testing them, and then using them on a daily basis is so much fun AND, I have discovered, helps save me money.
