How I Made $640/mo in a Few Hours!
My Why
Before I get to the numbers, let’s talk about why I have a blog to begin with. Growing up, I was a mama’s girl. Through and through. And then, when I was in high school, my mom was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer. A year later, she passed away.
Needless to say, I was completely devastated! I had lost my mother and my best friend! But throughout that whole experience (and for many years afterward), I never once thought about my own health. Or how I should take care of myself. Instead, I ate whatever I wanted, bought cosmetics simply because I liked the packaging, and cleaned my house with whatever smelled good.
And then, three years ago, a doctor friend suggested I get tested for the breast cancer gene. “Sure,” I thought, “What do I have to lose? There is no way I have that!!”
But guess what? I am sure you have already figured out how this story goes… I did have a gene mutation linked to breast cancer. And suddenly, I started to think (A LOT!) about my health and the choices I made, including the products I used on my body and in my home.
Don’t worry! This isn’t a sad, depressing story. It turns out that being empowered and living a healthy lifestyle is joyful and exciting! Not to mention that whipping up body scrubs in your own kitchen is crazy fun!
My motivation to be healthy (and stick around for a very long time) increased even more when my husband and I found out that we were pregnant with our first child. Since we were already all about keeping things simple and natural, it only made sense that our pregnancy and parenting style be simple and natural too.
Look at this kid! Talk about motivation to be healthy, right?
Now I feel called to share my passion for a natural lifestyle with others. And what better way than through a blog!?! Plus, my dream is to soon be able to stay at home with my little one. (I am sure there are many of you who wish that you could stay home with your kiddos too! Right?).
So how did I do?

What I did differently?
First off, can we pause for just a second? Because this was the first month that I made over a $1,000 on my blog. What, what!
(Insert party dancing here)
A big part of what pushed me over the edge was the fact that this was the first month that I did some freelance work. I would say that freelancing is a great option when your blog isn’t generating enough income for you or if you want even more money. So how do you find freelance work? Check out Facebook groups like VA for Hire or contact a blogger that you know and volunteer your services.
What I did the same?
I still earn a large portion of my income from affiliates, which is awesome! I recognize that a lot of people get weirded out by affiliate marketing. I am not sure if its because they are worried that they’ll look a used car salesman or what. But luckily, I have never had that problem, and for two reasons:
1.) I only promote products that I love and use. That way I know I am being honest and genuine. When There’s no fear of sawdust in the engine when you do that!
2.) I learned how to do affiliate marketing from the “best of the best.” Michelle Schroeder-Gardner created an e-course called Making Sense of Affiliate Marketing, and it teaches you everything you need to know about affiliate marketing. Plus she’s created an amazing list of affiliate programs for a wide variety of niches that you receive when you sign up for the course.
So why would you want to learn from Michelle? Well, for two reasons. First, Michelle makes over $50,000 a month through affiliate marketing on her blog. Clearly, she knows what she is doing. The second is because someone once reached out to her and said, “I don’t understand how you make $50,000 a month through affiliate marketing. You’ve never sold a single thing through your blog.” Michelle does affiliate marketing in such a natural and authentic way that you can’t even tell that’s what she’s doing. Again, no sawdust! So if there was one blogging resource that I would encourage you to get (hands down!) it would be Michelle’s.
What now?
Let’s be honest though. If you are hoping to gain ad income, then getting traffic to your site is a big deal. You can read all about how I exploded my blog traffic in less than 30 days in this post. So what am I currently working on? Well, I’m still working on creating more and more awesome content and a new product (it’ll be a while before I can announce it).
I am also still cranking through my Elite Blog Academy course. I seriously think I am the slowest person in the group. Really.
