Easy, DIY Oil Pulling Melts

If you are struggling with fertility problems or are hoping to regulate your menstrual cycle, one of the best things you can do is go through a detox.  No, I am not talking about one of those juice fasts that were super popular a couple of years ago (thank God! I get light-headed every time I try those things).  Instead, I am talking about a detoxification of your liver.

Why do you want to detoxify your liver?  Well, its the biggest internal organ of your body and it serves over 200 functions.  Crazy, right?  Some of those functions include regulating your metabolism and ridding your body of excess toxins (Think pesticides, BPAs, chemicals in our beauty and cleaning products, and excess hormones).  So if your liver isn’t working at tip-top shape, it will have a hard time doing it’s uber important job.

It turns out that there are variety of different herbs and supplements you can use to help detoxify your liver, but most of those are not safe for pregnant or breastfeeding mamas.  So if you are like me, a mama who is still breastfeeding and wants to regulate her cycle so she can try to conceive again, you are left with many options.

Enter, oil pulling!

Are you looking for an easy way to rid your body of toxins? The try these super simple DIY oil pulling melts! Anyone can make them with just a few ingredients, and they work great!

It’s is an ancient Ayurvedic dental technique that involves swishing a tablespoon of oil in your mouth on an empty stomach.  Ideally, you do this for 20 minutes and the spit the oil out.  SPIT IT OUT!  Don’t swallow!  That defeats the purpose of the whole exercise.  Oil pulling is an incredibly gentle (and pregnant and/or breastfeeding-friendly  way) to rid toxins in your body.

Some people choose to oil pull by just sticking a tablespoon of goopy oil in their mouth.  If you’re one of those people then more power to you.  I’ve tried it.  I’m not.

That’s why I decided to create these oil-pulling melts instead.  They take just minutes to create, but you do have to let them chill inside their molds for several hours in the fridge to firm up before you use them.

Note: I used these super cute heart-shaped ones that I found.

I also decided to up the detox-ability (Is that even a word? Now it is!) by adding On Guard essential oil.  It contains several different oils including Clove, Cinnamon, Eucalyptus, and Wild Orange that promote overall wellness and support the immune system.  Now, they also taste great!

(But you still have to spit it out.  Seriously.)

This is such a great idea. I haven’t made the recipe, but it is definitely on my to-do list – so much easier than get a spoonful out of a jar every morning!
